In addition to the obvious pomegranate products, such as juice, packed arils and pomegranate juice concentrates which are available commercially, there are a wide range of other, health-linked pomegranate derived products. Most of them are sold in small quantities by relatively small and specialized vendors, in health shops and/or through a mail order. They include, for example, products which are sold as food supplements which are made from pomegranate seeds and extracts. Other products, which are also sold as dietary supplements, are oil capsules because they contain Omega 3 fatty acids which are polysaturated acids. Pomegranate seed oil is also being offered as a treatment for aging skin and prevention of wrinkles. It should be noted, however, that while the use of both, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products is based on well documented scientific evidence, there is yet no legal endorsement by official agencies. Nevertheless, ongoing research is currently being conducted, primarily in Israel. |
